The devastating complexities of modern age have disastrous influences on the different aspects of the human life. In modern age, man is frustrated by various factors and accordingly lost hope in life. The modern age is an age of loss, wars, anxieties and complexities. During this age, Childhood which is a symbol of hope becomes a symbol of suffering, fear and despair. The sterility of modern is represented by the absence of love, compassion and values.
The aim of this study is to trace these two very concepts in modern age through two sample absurd plays by Samuel Beckett. Beckett tries to show that childhood becomes a symbol of loss, insecurity and anxiety rather than hope, innocence and happiness. The moral sterility of the characters of is accompanied and supported by sterility of nature which surrounds them.
